Dear Indy and TGW squad, I have a question for OOTT. I recently found that a distant relative (Harold Monnickendam) served in the 1/9th (Glasgow Highland) Battalion from the Highland Light Infantry. He joined the war in 1915 in France as an private and he ended his employment in 1918 as a 2nd Lieutenant. I have read that his unit and several other Scottish units wore traditional kilts. You mentioned it shortly in the episode on British Uniforms of WW1 but how common was the use of kilts during WW1 and were they worn at the front? Yours sincerely and greetings from the neutral Netherlands, Koen Monnickendam Ps. I have a picture of Harold in uniform and found several pictures from men of the 1/9th wearing kilts in France.
