Since Germany made significant gains at the start of the war and later captured more Russian territory wouldn't it have made sense for them to just make peace and use occupied France and Belgium as a bargaining chip? I would think that at least by 1915 people would have realised that a breakthrough was not going to happen on the Western Front, Germany could have come out of the war stronger than before, or at least could have cut their losses. Why was there no peace earlier?Answered 7 months ago. Question posted by Anonymous.
Howdy from a fellow Houstonian Indy. I actually live right next to St. Johns, anyway, you may have already said something about this but why were the Ottomans having such difficult time holding back the British in Mesopotamia and Sinai and the Russians in the Caucasus, now that Gallipoli had ended and most of the Turkish manpower could be diverted on these fronts. Was it just poor leadership and tactics or something else? Can't tell you how much I love the show, y'all are great!Answered 7 months ago. Question posted by Anonymous.
Sometime between 1915 and 1916 my great grandfather was presented with a white feather, denoting him as a coward which made him feel it necessary to join the British army to prove otherwise. Was this white feather smear campaign supported by the goverment? Did other countries in the great war have a White Feather campaign? Did attitudes towards the people (mostly women from what I understand) change or become hostile towards the end of the war?Answered 7 months ago. Question posted by Anonymous.
What role did Cyprus and Crete have during the war? Since Cyprus was controlled by the British, couldn't the allies use the island to attack Anatolia and the eastern coast of the Mediterranean? And wasn't it an objective for the Ottomans?Answered 7 months ago. Question posted by Anonymous.
Indy, jeg elsker deg. One sentence question: Did any country set up special treatment programs, child wards or other 'welfare' facilities for children who lost one or both their parents during the war?Answered 7 months ago. Question posted by Anonymous.
Hi Indy and crew, I have a question for Out Of The Trenches. It's about the Turkish army. Why there were so many Germans in the high command? Was it because of lack of commanders for the turks? As those generals (von Sanders, von der Goltz, Kressenstein, etc.) could have been useful in both the western and eastern front.Answered 7 months ago. Question posted by Anonymous.
Hi again, I have a question about the Olympics of 1916. They were to be held in Berlin right? Did the Germans cancel them or the IOC? What was the story behind those games and how the wrld reacted to that?Answered 7 months ago. Question posted by Anonymous.
To what degree was captured territory by Germany used for production (both military and civilian)? Especially in northern France? And what about agricultural industry? With the German food shortage did they have forced labor there (especially poland/russia)?Answered 7 months ago. Question posted by Anonymous.
Hi Indy - for OOT, was conscription universal to all belligerents, regardless of social class i.e. Ireland, USA, Australia, and did the civilian population generally support a draft? God bless Texas. 1SG, US Army (ret.)Answered 7 months ago. Question posted by Anonymous.
I have a question about how or if the war was an issue during the presidential election of 1916. Was there growing pressure on Woodrow Wilson or Charles Evan Hughes to make the war a campaign issue? I know we got the war for real in 1917, but I'm curious about where we stood politically a 100 years ago. Thanks.Answered 7 months ago. Question posted by Anonymous.
The Germans had von Letow-Vorbeck, von Luckner, Nergerm Von Richtofen & others. I'm curious, what outstanding fightning men did Austria-Hungary have? And are there any good books to read about them and/or Austria-Hungary in World War 1?Answered 7 months ago. Question posted by Anonymous.
