To what extent were new troops told about the real conditions at the front while in training?

Asked 7 months ago by Zachary Frey

There was a massive, massive difference between recruiting station propaganda and actual conditions at the front. To what extent were soldiers still in training informed of what real conditions were like at the front before getting deployed? How shocked were these normal, young men to learn that they would now be eating rats, wallowing in filth, and getting blown to pieces by artillery completely at random?
